On exhibit from September 21 through October 9 at the Courtyard Marriott in downtown Grand Rapids for the 2011 ArtPrize competition This painting is about technology run amok. It is a picture that I started working on over six years ago. It resurfaced during the Gulf oil spill but it took the nuclear disaster at Fukushima, Japan to give the painting substance and meaning. On a more personal level it’s about my own struggles with technology... I need that slab (dependence). I crave its powers (addiction). And for you? Is that angry slab in the sky your computer? Your Smart Phone? The electrical grid that powers your world? |
