Techno Paintings
The "Suiters" in the digital paintings below are recurring characters in my "Techno" pictures. They can symbolize many things, including over zealous oversight into our personal lives. They may be CIA agents. They may be mindless technocrats. What are they to you? I used an interesting technique to create these "suiter" pictures. I pose models in costume, photograph them, then manipulate the photo images in Photoshop, overlaying additional images to create the composition. I then use the layered Photoshop image to create a digital painting in Art Rage, a painting program.

Below is the "Gravity's End" Triptych. Although the three panels are best as a group, they are also interesting paintings on their own. This series is derived from the massive digital painting I created for the Grand Rapids Art Prize competition in 2011. The original painting is 28 feet wide by seven feet high and is made up of 44 20-inch square panels. This version is available in more manageable sizes.

The digital paintings in the "Siren Series" below were painted in Corel Painter and Art Rage. They symbolize an awakening and a loss of innocence. To me these Sirens were once pure and innocent Mermaids, now becoming women in a dangerous and confusing world.

I had a serious problem with high tech back around the turn of the century. I was a real techno-phobe! Back then, I created a series of memorable images railing against the dangers of too much dependence on technology. I've been taking another look at these images and freshening them up for today. These techno-phobic images are meant to capture the humor and angst of working with technology.
