Here in Michigan the cold dark months are coming, but I really do look forward to this time of year. My exhibition schedule calms down, the crowds leave our touristy town, and I feel myself able to focus, thrive, and create!
“Elephant Shoes” is my first new work of the season and I’m really excited to share it with you.
My original inspiration for this painting was just thinking about what it would be like if elephants wore shoes. I actually started several versions with adult elephants. One was a whole herd of stampeding elephants, all wearing scruffy work boots.
I liked the work boots, but somehow, it didn’t work with adults. They are just too sure-footed and self confident.
When I tried those scruffy boots onto a baby elephant it all came together. The boots have untied laces like a human kid might have. The young elephant is a little clumsy and seems to be tripping a little with those heavy shoes.
I think it works. It’s about vulnerability and growing up and about the very real treasure that these magnificent beasts are. I like this picture and hope you do, too!
I will eventually be adding “Elephant Shoes” to my main Limited Edition Gallery, but first I wanted to offer it to my patrons in a limited edition of only five artists proof Giclees in a unique 24x24 inch format. Only five prints in this size will ever be printed so when they are all sold the print master will be destroyed. They are truly limited and unique.
I personally pull each print individually using Epson Signature Worthy Cold Press Bright Watercolor paper on an Epson 7850 inkjet printer using archival-quality pigment-based inks.
I Personally sign and number each one as a limited edition artists proof. Each print comes with a certificate of authenticity.
The paper size is 24x24 inches with the image in the middle with my signature deckled edges and a generous white border.
They are available framed or unframed. Framed prints are backed by acid free foam core and covered with reflection control acrylic for added UV protection. The frame is a Nielson museum style mat black aluminum.
Unframed prints are shipped loosely rolled in a sturdy corrugated box and are ready for framing.
